SUBJECT: Applying to become a Lay Leader or Worship Leader in the Sir Force.
The appointment of a Lay Leader for any religious group is governed by the Wing Chaplain or the Chaplain-in-Charge. The enclosed instruction is included as it outlines the duties of the Wing Chaplain and how they are to accommodate religious practices for those groups that do not have a chaplain. To be specific Section 3.2.2.3 details how a Chaplain is to appoint a Lay Leader.
While the instruction allows for a person without church backing to be chosen as Lay Leader (Section3.2.2.3.3) experience has taught us that such groups tend to collapse due to internal politics and personal issues. Our official recommendation to any person seeking to be a Lay Leader on an Air Force base is to seek the support of a Church with a basic Lay Leader education program. In all such cases Section 3.2.2.3.2 will apply, as the Department of Defense has not certified any Pagan churches at this time. If you need help finding such a church please contact MPN.
Good luck.
